Project 333. Join me?

Courtney rules!

You know who is awesome? Courtney Carver.

I stumbled upon her site via the A-List Blogging Club, and she had a great idea. She created Project 333, a mission to be aware of simplifying what we wear as a way to simplify our lives. The idea is 33 items for 3 months. It has a few things you don’t count (Naturally. Hey, we’re trying here! :p), so it’s totally doable!

Courtney’s mission is very inspiring. She wants to let herself shine, instead of her clothing, and it seems to me we should all be so secure. One of the very valid points she makes, about why she chose to start this project, is she formally used what she wore to display her creativity and originality. While I still think this is possible, via self-designed clothing, what an interesting notion. How many of us have done the same, keeping clothing in the name of personal creativity?

This is why what Courtney has to say matters. Because she is saying it, not anything she owns, she is one of my new heroes.

As you may know, clothing is my sin as a minimalist. So, I am happy to say as of Oct. 1st, I am taking the plunge and joining Project 333.

Here are the rules, as per her website, www.bemorewithless.com:

You are invited to Project 333

3 months with 33 items

When: October 1 – December 31
What: 33 items including clothing, accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes.
What not: these items are not counted as part of the 33 items – wedding ring, underwear, sleep, in-home lounge wear,  and workout clothing (you can only wear your workout clothing to workout)
How: over the next two months, outline your 33 items, by the 1st of October, box up the remainder of your fashion statement, seal it with tape and put it out of site.
What else: consider that you are creating a wardrobe that you can live, work and play in for three months. If you purchase items for project 333, stick with the one in, two out approach. Consider the essentials and stick to 33.

I know we are a little behind, but it’s never too late to start! Honestly, when you realize how few clothes you rotate through the most consistently, it isn’t as hard as it sounds. There was this one sweater that I had a problem parting with. It is beautiful white cashmere and super cozy, but it just doesn’t fit quite right. So, because I can’t bring myself donate it, I am giving it to my sister – who I still can’t believe is swapping clothing with me! Seven year difference!

Here is my list of 33:

1. Walking Shoes
2. Brown Heels
3. Black boots

**I’m leaving myself at liberty to switch a couple of these winter items out for my shorts again, because we just got hit with 86 degree weather in October. Sheesh. Yay weather causing fine print, lol.

Woohoo! There it is! Anyway, I hope you will join me and a plethora of other minimalists in participating in Project 333. Take sustainable fashion and frugality to the next level!

  1. Carrie says:

I joined the challenge. I’ve been enjoying seeing everyone’s lists.

  2. Beverly says:

Yay, this is a great challenge. It just keeps growing. I’ve made my list and cleaned out the closet. Horray for Courtney! Good luck and heres to sticking with it!

  3. My wife and I had a discussion about this last night. She claims she doesn’t even have 33 items and I am pretty sure she doesn’t. So we are now trying to figure out a challenge that applies to our already pared down life. Hmmm….

  4. Oh goodness, do I ever need to do this. I actually got rid of a whole closet full of clothes when I was pregnant, and I still have way too many. To top it all off, I think I have over 33 pairs of shoes alone. I am a recovering clothing junkie in the worst sense. I definitely have a long way to go on my path of minimalism (I’m just now starting so when I say long, I mean long), but thanks for sharing the 333 project, I think this will be a good place to start.

    In Christ,
    Anne Marie
